A Vision for Collaborative Growth and Lifelong Learning

Welcome to Seedling School, an evolving educational journey designed for families seeking a deep connection to nature, hands-on learning, and the power of community. Rooted in a cooperative model, Seedling School is a space where families come together to learn, grow, and share in the joy of raising children in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Each year, Seedling School will look at expanding into new age groups, with older children mentoring the younger ones, creating a dynamic and interconnected learning experience for all involved. This approach ensures that as children grow, they become both learners and teachers, fostering a sense of responsibility and connection. As a cooperative, every family has a voice in shaping the school’s vision, allowing us to create a flexible, adaptable program that meets the needs of all participants.

At Seedling School, we believe in the power of hands-on learning, real-world experiences, and the mentorship of both adults and peers. Our goal is to build relationships that extend beyond traditional academics and foster a sense of belonging within the city of Anchorage. Weekly meetups will form the foundation of our program, and from there, families will create additional learning and social opportunities, weaving together a rich tapestry of shared experiences and knowledge.

We are seeking visionary families who are ready to grow with us—founding members who see the need for a village in raising children and are eager to build connections that expand beyond the classroom. Seedling School isn’t just for the children; it’s for everyone involved. As we grow, we will continue to prioritize mentorship, hands-on experience, and crafting a life worth living.

While Amy holds the vision for Seedling School, it will take all of us—bringing our energy, resources, ideas, and time—to truly bring this vision to life. Together, we’ll shape the future of education, creating a space where both children and adults learn, discover, and thrive together.

Current Needs, Requests, and Ideas for Expansion

As Seedling School grows, we are actively seeking contributions from the community to help bring this vision to life. Here are some of our current needs and ideas for expansion.

Mentors & Educators

  • We are looking for mentors with expertise in specific areas of study who are passionate about sharing their knowledge. If you have a skill or area of expertise, such as science, art, or history, we’d love to hear from you! We are flexible and will travel to your work location, home, or meet at a local park or community center.

  • We are also looking to expand our team with new educators, gradually increasing the depth and variety of teaching experiences for our students. If you are an educator who shares our vision for hands-on, nature-based learning, consider reaching out to Amy.

Community Elders

  • We’re seeking elders who enjoy environmental education and are interested in joining our weekly meetups. Elders bring a wealth of wisdom and perspective that will help guide our students on their learning journey, and we believe their presence is vital to creating a truly intergenerational learning experience.

Land for Seedling School & Nature Song

  • We are actively looking for land to rent or buy that would suit the needs of Seedling School and also serve as a community space for Nature Song. Ideally, this land would allow us to build temporary structures that can be taken down, providing a dynamic space for hands-on activities, learning, and community gatherings.

  • An alternative idea is to purchase a bus that could be converted into a mobile classroom. This bus would be used in inclement weather or for indoor activities and could also serve other Nature Song initiatives, such as Menstruation Education, Mother Nature Circles, and afterschool programs for children who lack outdoor options and need additional tutoring, particularly in reading.

Outreach & Visibility

  • To help spread the word and reach more families in Anchorage, we are looking for podcasts, interviews, and media opportunities that can help share our vision with a broader audience. If you are involved in a platform or know someone who might be interested in showcasing our mission, please get in touch!

We invite you to join us in co-creating a dynamic, nature-based learning experience that nurtures connection, growth, and community for children and families. Together, we can build a supportive, collaborative space where both children and adults thrive, learning from each other and the world around us.
