Below is a list of projects that Amy has either worked on in the community or envisions for the future. These are shared to inspire and connect with others who may be interested in collaborating or pursuing similar initiatives.

Current Dream Projects

Backyard Stories is a simple yet powerful idea to foster stronger social connections across Anchorage. In the summer, neighbors gather for evenings of storytelling and connection, hosted by neighbors throughout the city. Each gathering sparks the next, creating opportunities to build meaningful relationships and supportive networks within each neighborhood involved.

This idea grew from storytelling meetups I hosted on Zoom during the Covid pandemic—a time when connection felt more essential than ever. These gatherings focused on simple, personal stories around a theme, and I left each call filled with gratitude and reassurance about humanity.

While I’ve yet to host a Backyard Stories event, the idea continues to resonate. I found it challenging to convey the concept and encourage neighbors to step into the role of hosting, especially among those unfamiliar with one another. At the time, a few friends expressed interest, but it didn’t quite come together. Over time, I’ve realized how much easier it would be to team up with an established nonprofit or find a handful of individuals eager to get this started. Starting small, with just a few backyards, feels like the perfect approach. I’m confident this idea has the potential to create lasting change in how we connect as neighbors.

Here’s the webpage I started for this idea—it offers more details and includes a form for those interested in getting involved.

Mother Nature Circles

The power of the feminine is the openness to collaborate and learn from one another. Not one person has all of the answers.

In council, we have the opportunity to share our personal experience and help others while processing our own emotions and gleaming answers from within.

Menstruation Eduction

I am deeply passionate about menstruation education and am committed to seeing more menstruation circles flourish. To support this vision, I’ve worked to remove some of the common barriers to facilitating these circles by offering resources and materials that can be borrowed by mothers, youth leaders, schools, and co-ops in Anchorage, Alaska. These resources empower individuals and groups to host their own gatherings, with the basket including pillows, a centerpiece, menstruation products, books, and hands-on materials to help visually explain the menstrual cycle.

In addition to these materials, I am developing a comprehensive curriculum designed for anyone interested in leading these important conversations. When I first began researching how to create a program, I found that most resources were either inaccessible or costly—often requiring hundreds of dollars for certification under someone else’s name. While not everyone aspires to become a formal menstruation education facilitator, many parents and mentors want tools to teach their daughters or facilitate circles with their friends. My goal is to ensure that those who wish to facilitate have access to well-crafted and affordable curriculum. It took me over 90 hours to develop the materials I currently use in my own circles, and I believe it’s important to make this resource available at a reasonable cost for others. Not everyone has the time or resources to craft their own circles, and I want to help make these valuable gatherings more accessible and widespread.

To bring this vision to life, I’m seeking support from the community. If you feel called to contribute your time or editing services, I would greatly appreciate assistance with refining the curriculum. Additionally, I’m looking for natural health practitioners or other medical professionals to peer-review the materials to ensure they meet the highest standards.

I am also seeking a co-host to join me in teaching this curriculum during school and evening hours throughout the upcoming year. If you're interested in co-facilitating and share a passion for menstrual education, I’d love to collaborate with you to bring this important work to the community.

Heroines Club

Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of running two Heroines Club, one with my daughter’s class, which didn’t include mothers, and another with a small group of moms and daughters. I quickly fell in love with the book and the powerful way it fosters important conversations between mothers and daughters. Each meeting focused on a different heroine, followed by discussions on topics like intuition, stereotypes, pursuing dreams, and more—topics I wish had been part of my own upbringing, as they would have made a profound difference in my adult life. My goal has always been to create a space for mothers and daughters to build strong, authentic relationships rooted in openness and trust.

Now, more than ever, these kinds of gatherings feel essential. Given the rising rates of depression and struggles young girls face, it’s clear that there is a deep need for spaces where they can talk openly, with the support of wise mothers and a caring community. These gatherings provide an opportunity to foster lasting bonds and have meaningful conversations in a safe, supportive environment.

I’m looking for mothers with daughters ages 10 to 12 who are interested in forming a Heroines Club, meeting monthly in Anchorage, Alaska, along with me and my 11-year-old daughter. I’d love to create this club as a collaborative effort, where mothers share the responsibility of holding space and co-creating the experience together. I’m also open to hosting a Heroines Club, with a mutually agreed-upon fee to cover the time and resources involved.

Additionally, I’m passionate about helping others start their own Heroines Clubs in different communities. If you’re interested in joining a local group, have questions, or want support in creating a group for you and your daughter, I’d love to hear from you.

Heros Club

Hero’s Heart is a club for mothers and their 9- and 10-year-old sons who want to explore important pre-teen topics together. Based on the book *Hero’s Heart* by Melia Keeton-Digby, the club provides a step-by-step guide for creating monthly gatherings filled with meaningful activities and discussions. Melia was inspired to write the book after her sons expressed a desire for a version of the Heroines Club that their sisters had enjoyed. The book offers a detailed outline of activities and thought-provoking questions designed to foster connection and open dialogue between mothers and sons. (Link to detailed out of topics and activities.)

I initially tried to launch this club when my son was 9 but struggled to generate enough interest. At the time, I heard from many boy moms who were eager for something like the Heroines Club but couldn’t quite make it happen. Looking back, I realize how ideal that age was for these conversations, and I regret not creating this space sooner. Now, as the mother of a teen boy, I see just how challenging it can be to initiate these important discussions. I can’t help but think how much my son would have benefitted from the topics covered in Hero’s Heart back then.

We know so much about personal growth and wellness, yet we often struggle to pass that knowledge on to our children in ways that truly resonate. My goal is to change that. I’d love to host gatherings for local mothers and sons in Anchorage to provide a safe, open space for conversation, connection, and growth. Together, we can create something lasting that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of our boys.

If you’d prefer to start your own Hero’s Heart club, I’m happy to share what I’ve learned about holding space for youth and offer guidance as you create this special gathering for your son and others. Let’s build something positive and impactful together.

Sexuality Education Series

This six-week series, inspired by the Our Whole Lives holistic curriculum, provides accurate, age-appropriate information to help youth clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the emotional and social aspects of sexuality. I had the honor of co-teaching this series several years ago for a group of twelve kids, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. I was deeply moved by the curriculum’s impact and the meaningful, open conversations we were able to have as a group.

Despite my efforts to organize additional groups, gathering kids in this age range has proven difficult due to their busy schedules. This is truly disheartening, as I strongly believe that the lessons taught in this series can leave a lasting imprint on their lives. I haven’t tried for several years to organize a group, but I am open to trying again with the support of my community and co-teachers who might join me.

Looking forward, my goal is to host a series each fall with a co-teacher, as well as a spring series, with support from other adults who share the same values and have experience working with youth. There is certification training available that we could take if we decided to make this series happen throughout the year. I’m also excited to support anyone who feels passionate about offering this work in the world—whether they choose to run these sessions themselves and make it their professional endeavor. It’s more important to me that this valuable resource exists for young people, and I would gladly support those who want to bring it to life in their own way.
