Forest Collective

The Forest Collective is a nurturing space where mothers come together to build deep connections and mutual-aid support systems, weaving a vibrant network across Anchorage, Alaska.

History behind Forest Collective

The inspiration for starting this collective came from Amy’s early experience founding the original Nature Song Forest group during her daughter’s early childhood. For three years, the group met weekly in the woods, fostering deep friendships and meaningful memories that shaped her parenting journey. After the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic, Amy recognized the need to help mothers reconnect and build support networks. Rooted in Nature Song’s values of interconnection and mutual support, pods became spaces where families could thrive, creating the same sense of community and belonging she had cherished years before.

Currently, four pods have been established, bringing together 21 families. While some families have come and gone, the original group has remained strong, gathering regularly for nearly two years. Over the years, we have celebrated new babies, gathered for seasonal festivities, shared coffee and conversation, hiked trails, organized a day retreat, adopted an apple tree, swapped toys and outdoor gear, and been there as listening ears and helping hands.

This journey has been deeply meaningful for these moms, just as it was for the original group that first came together in 2015—a testament to the power of connection and shared experiences.

Developing Community Through Pods

Pods are groups of 4 to 6 families who meet weekly outdoors, starting with Amy Rupp as the coordinator and guide and gradually transitioning into self-run groups. What begins as a simple meet-up evolves into a vibrant community that offers support, shares valuable insights, and invests time in building life-long friendships. These pods are designed with the adults in mind. From meaningful conversations to shared laughter during weekly gatherings, and regular adult get-togethers, these communities create a space where parents can connect, recharge, and have fun together.

This is where mutual support starts to happen!
