Forest Roots Membership

Membership is broken down into two categories: friends and partners and is based on the Micro Solidarity framework.

Partners
Partners are members with more commitment and capacity (time and energy) for co-leadership. Partners get to decide who to invite as friends and who to invite as new partners.

Friends
Friends participate as individuals and do not have to think too much about the big picture of the collective, unless they want to. To join the collective as a friend, you first need to attend a local gathering put on by the Collective. Friends can become a partner at their second gathering, if they are trusted and ready to take more responsibility for the whole.

Crews
Both partners and friends are apart of a crew, of 6 to 8 people who meet weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. Each crew decides on their frequency and focus. Everyone should make a regular financial contribution ($10/$50 mo) to cover internal work (communication, hosting gatherings, rental space and material costs, online Mighty Network fees, etc.)

  • What is a crew: A collection of people who have interests in which they wish to explore in a safe, open space with no hierarchy, but welcomed curiosity.

  • Why crew: We are creating systems of support that challenge ourselves and our ideas, and lift each other up in the process.

  • How to create a crew: Here are some basic guidelines for creating a group. For a thorough understanding of crewing, read through these articles in sequence.
